Being Happy

Have you ever noticed that other people always want you to be happy. But usually their definition of happy.

For the people wanting happiness for me, this usually involves me meeting a nice girl who likes me for me. They tell me she'll be the perfect woman for me: young at heart, fun, funny, wickedly smart, likes the same sports I do, loves kids, loves to laugh, and is very pretty. They tell me she'll come along soon, we'll fall in love, and live happily ever after.

Some say she'll fit all my typical criteria: light eyes, dark hair, freckles, tall. They tell me that we'll communicate like never before. That we'll love like never before. And everything will be perfect.

Personally, I wish they'd stop.

Believe me or not, I had a vision. I was on a shamanic journey (no, I'm not a shaman, but at times I do follow a shamanic path). I was introduced to her. She told me to look for her.

Now I know that my job is to get ready for her. To get my life in order. To become the best person I can be. To discover my dharma, my purpose.

And that makes me happy.

Much happier than rushing into a relationship that isn't right before I'm right. Because I know that's just a way of avoiding the hard work that will lead to true happiness.

I'm happily working on me.

Hopefully I can get my friends to see that, so they can stop hoping I meet somebody nice. I'm having fun working on me while I wait to meet her.
